The Round Recognition Award Winners 2023

Celebrating all things annual reports and accounts 2023

The Round Governance Services bookshelves are straining under the weight of annual report and accounts documents. Who doesn’t love the glossy pages of a magazine? And, when it comes to choosing our Round Recognition Award winners, the excitement is palpable here at the Round House. We love adding new additions to our ever-expanding shelves.

The team have taken the time to peruse all of the 2023 award submissions — Kerry Round, Founding Director says, “It always seems like a daunting task to do the Round Recognition Awards justice but then I get my judges hat on and instantly remember why we choose to do this—to celebrate the hardwork, sweat and potentially tears that go into these projects every year. The calibre of entries is always incredible, but this year has been outstanding, so thank you to everyone who sent us submissions. It’s over for another year. Wipe your brow and go celebrate. Cheers to you.”

Introducing our 2023 award-winning annual reports and accounts

Congratulations to all of our winners this year. Here they are:

On Flutter Entertainment PLC

Kerry says, “Impressive from page one, the whole report feels considered and connected. There’s a carefully crafted narrative presented beautifully and clearly throughout the entire document. The Governance Report had me at 'Governance at a glance' and I loved the boldness of the Board activities and their links to outcomes. What many reports get right is the use of infographics, but not all of them ensure the wording is there to clearly explain them - this report strikes the right balance! A first for RGS but I’m sure it won't be the last!”

Lloyds Banking Group

Kerry says, “With the nostalgic ‘Black Beauty’ on the cover of this Annual Report, the content oozes sophistication with wonderful design and a cohesive story on every page. Governance drivers such as 'purpose' and 'stakeholders' (two of our personal favourites), are evident throughout, and help this report to boast both style and substance. I look forward to receiving my hard copy!”

On United Utilities

Kerry says, " I tried hard to resist this report as it’s a known favourite - but it’s for a good reason; it packs a punch on governance and is consistent with its narrative and delivery. United Utilities have raised the bar again on this one. They’ve evolved their report to incorporate the draft standards from the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) at a time when many companies are still trying to work out what it means! Perhaps next year we might see a fresh colour palette? Well done team!”

On Derwent London

Kerry says, “another firm favourite in the Round House is the stylish approach to annual reporting adopted by the team at Derwent London. I detect a slight refresh to style and design this year without moving away from their roots. What this report does do is deliver a lot of information without necessarily using too many words, pictures or infographics to clog up the page! Breathing space is always a good idea when it comes to annual reports!” We know our stuff

On Monzo

Kerry says, “we’re so pleased to congratulate the team of two at Monzo who pulled the governance section together this year. For anyone who knows Annual Report and Accounts will know that this is no mean feat. All of us here at RGS take our hats off to you! Congratulations.”

We get it!
